Gina Raimondo Continues Focus on Manufacturing

Ad featuring Senator Jack Reed highlights Gina’s focus on bringing back manufacturing jobs to Rhode Island
PROVIDENCE - A new television ad from the Rhode Island Democratic Party highlights Gina Raimondo’s unwavering focus on improving our economy and her commitment to working with the state's federal delegation to bring more jobs back to Rhode Island.
Featured in the ad is U.S. Senator Jack Reed, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee who has delivered key resources to support manufacturing innovation in Rhode Island.
“This ad shows why I support Gina Raimondo for Governor -- she is a problem solver and a difference maker," said Senator Reed. "Gina knows what it takes to reinvigorate Rhode Island’s manufacturing sector and bring good paying, sustainable jobs back home. Rhode Island is in a race to attract advanced manufacturing jobs. We need the right leadership and smart investments. Gina has put forth strategies and solutions that will help us compete and thrive, and accelerate Rhode Island’s economic growth.”
“I am so proud to have Senator Reed’s support in this campaign,” added Gina Raimondo. “Manufacturing jobs are coming back from overseas for the first time in over a decade and I will work with the federal delegation to make sure we are getting our share of those jobs here in Rhode Island. I know firsthand how important a good, middle-class job is for Rhode Island families; my Dad worked at Bulova Watch for 26 years, until the factory closed and the jobs left our state. As Governor, I will work closely with Senator Reed to get Rhode Islanders back to work and grow our middle class.”
The television ad begins running today on broadcast and cable. Gina will be focusing on manufacturing all week, with a Twitter Town Hall planned for Tuesday, and a manufacturing tour with Senator Reed planned for Thursday.
As Governor, Gina will work with Senator Reed to help rebuild Rhode Island’s manufacturing economy by:
  • Establishing the Rhode Island Innovation Institute (RI II), a center dedicated to taking the good ideas coming out of our colleges and universities and turning them into products that we make right here in Rhode Island. The passage of the Revitalize American Manufacturing and Investment Act (RAMI) will help make this happen, and allow RI II to build on the successes of existing innovation institutes like the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute in Youngstown, Ohio.
  • Using our state’s competitive advantages to become a leader in marine science, food technology and medical device manufacturing.
  • Making investments in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) education, to encourage exposure in these fields so that RI has a workforce ready to work in the advanced manufacturing sector.
At the federal level, Senator Reed, along with members of the Congressional delegation are working to help advance a bipartisan manufacturing agenda that includes:
  • Creating a National Network of Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI) to help spur innovation and capitalize on emerging manufacturing technologies.
  • Improving job training and streamlining workforce development programs to give workers an opportunity to build their careers and learn new, in-demand skills in fields like technology and advanced manufacturing.
